Valorie Sandra Annette (Keast) Mamela

It is with broken hearts that the family announces the passing of Valorie Mamela (nee Keast) who passed away on June 1, 2021 at the age of 76 following a courageous battle with multiple myeloma cancer over her last seven years of her life.  It is with heartfelt gratitude and sincere thank you from the entire family to the many doctors, nurses and staff who cared for Val during her many visits the BC Cancer Agency Sindi Ahluwalia Hawkins Centre and in her final days at the Hospice House Kelowna.

Valorie was born in Islay, Alberta and spent her growing up years in Dewberry, Alberta.  Valorie was the third eldest of seven siblings. Valorie pursued a career as a professional hairstylist and graduated from Marvel Beauty School in Edmonton, Alberta.   Over the course of her 35 year career she always sought to make her hundreds of clients feel and look their best no matter their age, occupation and occasion.  While residing in Regina from 1980-2001, she worked at multiple salons including owning and operating Hair Odyssey Salon.   

With her marriage to her loving husband Standley Mamela, in 1965, she enjoyed living in and traveling to multiple destinations across Europe & Canada, but through it all she always had Alberta in heart.  No matter where she resided she loved fashion, gardening – especially a love of roses, birdwatching, a great road-trip with no specific destination in mind and teaching her kids how to bake.  To her friends she was always available with a listening ear, an honest opinion and never afraid to offer advice no matter the topic.  Her infectious smile, quick wit and making the most of what you’re dealt in life will be sorely missed by many.

Valorie is survived by her husband Standley; sons Thomas (Shelley) and Jon (Julie); grandkids Joshua, Velvett and Bianca; great grandchildren Aiden and Maddox; and her siblings including Verna (Larry), Vannette, Vidette & Valette aka Jackie (Ken) and Vernon.  Valorie is preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Annette and her sister Violet.

A private memorial service with family will be held at a later date.
