Toini Lahja Vilkko

The family of Toini Lahja Vilkko is saddened to announce her peaceful passing on June 17, 2024, at the age of 96 years. She will be missed by her sister, Eila; brothers Jouko and Kauko; many nieces and nephews, and her friends and community at Village at Smith Creek in West Kelowna.

Toini was a very sensitive, loving person, who could also be incredibly sarcastic and funny. She was also thoughtful, and caring. Toini enjoyed a career in horticulture due to her love of flowers, gardening, and the outdoors. Most of all, Toini loved her family and made the effort of staying connected even though they mostly lived in Finland and Sweden. Only Toini and her sister Eila migrated to Canada in their teens. In recent years, when dementia took hold, Toini was still pleasant to be around, and continued to have a very close connection with her sister, Eila. One of Toini's endearing expressions that revealed her character of gratefulness was, "A thousand thanks!"  This was expressed on the many occasions that anyone showed her kindness.

At her request, there will be no formal service.
