It is with sadness that the family of Thomas Cummins announces his peaceful passing on December 29, 2022, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 85 years.
Tom was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, to May and Joseph Cummins. At the age of 18, he followed his older brother Matt to Canada, sailing on the RMS Ascania, which departed on March 12, 1955. It arrived at New York just in time for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, after which Tom travelled on to Halifax, Nova Scotia, then by train to Edmonton, landing finally in Uranium City. There he began an over 60-year career in the Construction and HR field working in Labour Relations for projects at Nelson River, Columbia River, Castlegar, Revelstoke, Gillam, Kemano, and more.
He has since spent the last 29 years of his life in Peachland, British Columbia. Tom was passionate for the Edmonton Oilers, golf, and all sports, really. He loved camping with his family, always with a ‘the more, the merrier’ philosophy. Tom also loved travelling. He and Donna enjoyed many trips together over the years including multiple visits to Dublin, Spain, Mexico, and even Paris for the Euro Cup.
Tom was the most selfless person, always putting everyone before himself. He was the life of every room and could turn anyone’s frown upside down.
He will be remembered and sadly missed by his wife, Donna; children, Siobhan (Randy), Philip, Brad, Colette, Patricia (Mark), Jacky (John), and Kyle; stepchildren, Cory (Carell), Arron (Odette), and Christina (Ryan); twenty-seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews in Canada and Ireland; his mother-in-law, Vi Sinclair; and sisters-in-law, Margaret (Michael), and Catherine (Hans). Thomas is predeceased by his parents, May and Joseph Cummins (the last of eight children); sisters, Kathleen, May, Ellen, and Bridie; brothers, Matt, Harry, and Tony.
Tommy (Uncle Tommy) is on his 19th tee with his Guinness. May your beautiful soul rest in peace.
A Celebration of Life and Golf Tournament will be held in his honour at the Irish Club in Edmonton, Alberta, at a date to be announced.
