Steve Maas of West Kelowna passed away peacefully on January 30, 2022, at the age of 82 years. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his loving wife Shirley, daughter Annette Galas (Mike), stepdaughters Susan (Rob) and Cindy (Gary), grandchildren Steven and Jordan, step-grandchildren Sherri Burnett (Lee) and Jason Burnett (Catherine), 5 great-grandchildren, and his beloved dog Chinchin.
Steve escaped from Hungary in 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution and came to Canada at the age of 16 years. Steve loved woodworking, fishing, and anything outdoors. He had a special place in his heart for animals. He was a big, burly man with a big marshmallow heart.
There will be a private family gathering in the spring or summer at which time Steve will be returned to English River near Lake of the Woods in Northwest Ontario.
When I am gone, release me, let me go.
I have so many things to see and do,
You mustn't tie yourself to me with too many tears,
But be thankful we had so many years.
I gave to you my love, I can only guess
How much you gave me in happiness.
I thank you for the love that you have shown,
But now it’s time I travel on alone.
So grieve a while for me if grieve you must,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It’s only for a while that we must part,
So bless the memories within your heart.
I won't be far away, for life goes on.
And if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can't see or touch me, I am near.
And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear,
All my love around you, soft and clear.
Then, when you come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile and a 'Welcome Home'.
