Robert 'Bob' Raoul Bergeron

December 26, 1941 ~ August 15, 2023 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Obituary

Robert Raoul Bergeron passed away at Westview Place in Penticton BC on August 15, 2023.  He was 81 years of age.  He is reunited with his loving and devoted wife, Nancy Bergeron.

Father of Carol Bergeron (Blair Sampson) and Steven Bergeron and grandfather to Anthony, Samantha, and Conner (predeceased).  Brother to Linda Dionne (Gary) and Patricia (predeceased), (Charles predeceased).

Bob had a wonderful life.  He married his sweetheart, Nancy in 1962 just after he had retained a job with the Bank of Montreal in Cornwall Ontario.  Within a few years he was a Bank Manager and had two children.   After 20 years with the bank, Bob and Nancy decided to leave it all behind, move across the country to Langley British Columbia and open a Buns Master Bakery Franchise in 1981. Even though neither one of them knew about baking bread or buns, the bakery became very successful and was listed as one of the top 3 in the country.

The two retired at 46 years old and began their travels of the world, eventually visiting over 90 countries and making many more friends along the way. They were true adventurers, and we often look forward to hearing about their travels as they would give out all the treasures they purchased for their grandchildren.  Bob and Nancy wintered in the Baja, and Palm Springs and summered in White Rock and later Kelowna.  They had the best of both worlds.

Bob believed in practicality, hard work and saving money and loved to teach anyone who would listen about how to have a successful life. He was stoic, never showing fear, worry, or pain.  He could be very charismatic and had a great sense of humor.  He was very knowledgeable about politics, history, geography, and the stock market.  His favorite magazines were National Geographic and Time which were often found beside his chair.  He mastered new technology and learned how to use a computer.

Sadly, Bob suffered a major stoke in 2011 and despite months of rehabilitation, he never fully recovered.  This certainly didn’t get him down and the two continued to travel to their home in Indio in the winter until another stroke hit 5 years later.  Nancy became his full-time care giver, always by his side.  His favorite thing to do was to watch old western tv shows with his wife and have a glass of wine.  Unfortunately, Nancy was hit with cancer and passed away in 2018 leaving Bob in a long-term care home where he would live for 5 more years.

A private graveside service will be held for Bob at Westbank Cemetery, 3200 Elliot Road, West Kelowna, BC, on Monday, August 21, 2023.
