Michael Owen Obituary

Michael Patrick Owen passed away on February 24, 2024.

Immediately following his death, he was surrounded by his family in a peaceful setting at a funeral home in West Kelowna, British Columbia. Michael was born in London, Ontario, on July 15, 1980; a birthdate he shared with our mother, Linda Owen, and his twin sister, Alicia Owen. Michael is also survived by his father, Alan Owen, and sisters, Claire Perry and Vanessa Mirro, as well as Claire’s husband, Ryan Perry, and his parents, Chris and Linda Perry. He is also survived by our family overseas in the United Kingdom. Michael was a wonderful uncle to his nieces and nephew, Lily Perry, Isabella Mirro, Chloe Mirro, and Christopher Perry, respectively. He had a network of friends from his childhood and high school days in London, Ontario and at the fishing lodge he worked at in Kenora, a beautiful location in northern Ontario. It was in this place that Michael found his true happiness with his dog, Bruce, and his love of fishing.

Michael was beloved by many - a class clown, both at home, at school, and with his friends. He had a kind heart and a gentle soul, but at the same time full of wit and humor. He was incredibly creative with his storytelling and his imagination. He was a master fisherman, and his photo library is a testament to his talent in catching pike in the lakes of Northern Ontario. During his teenage years in London, Ontario, he had a strong friend network that had a shared love of music and nature. They enjoyed punk shows at local venues, skateboarding, and trail hikes in the area. In his adult years, he was an avid researcher of history and current events. Michael left the fishing lodge less than a decade ago to serve as a caretaker for his father at first, who suffered a stroke and then cancer, and then his mother who was diagnosed with terminal cancer in late 2022. Our hearts are so heavy with this profound loss of our brother, son, and friend. We will miss his smile, laugh, and his warm presence, but he will forever remain in our hearts.

In Michael’s honor, please consider donating to an organization he was passionate about - the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters.
