Michael David Heeney

Mike passed away at Kelowna General Hospital on January 3, 2020 with family at his side. Mike was born in 1953 in Niagara Falls, ON.

“Mike the Motorbike” earned his title at the young age of 8 with his enthusiasm for Motorcycles and thirst for adventure. Born and raised in Ontario, Mike was the 2nd child of 5. He married (Gayla), had 3 children and followed his love for nature, big mountains and moved his young family out to BC. Mike became an accomplished tradesman (Gasfitter) and worked mainly as an independent contractor. The family lived coastal in BC but had regular getaways to the Shuswap where he ended up living out his life. Later divorced, he continued to fuel his passions and met many many friends along the way

Mikes mother (Joyce) passed along the wonderful gift of appreciation for art. He saw beauty in most and tested his own skills airbrushing motorcycles and painting canvas in his leisure time. When the Harley engine wasn’t thundering alongside his brother (Dan), you could find Mike in his boat chasing Rainbow Trout, camping in unusual places, playing card games, bombing down the ski hill, entertaining by the fire or road tripping in his motorhome.  Also known for his fancy feet on the dance floor. Mike had an infectious smile, charming personality, piercing blue eyes and loved to laugh. He accomplished more in his 66 years of life than most would by the age of 100. With multiple bike trips across country (Canada and US) under his belt, he lived a life of no regrets with a never-ending bucket list. He earned a secondary nickname of “Leatherface” to his biker friends as an award for so many rides. Mike met a lovely woman (Cathy) in his final years and spent most of his time enjoying nature with her.

Mike was predeceased by his Father, John Heeney. He will be missed by his Mother, Joyce Cutler, his Siblings: John (Cathy), Dan, Carol (Cook) and Kathleen (Ivan), his Children: Tara, Michael and Breyan, Grandchildren: Mackenzie, Dane, Tayla and Great-grandbaby Elleanore, as well as many In-laws, nieces/nephews in both BC and Ontario and his loving girlfriend Cathy and ex-wife Gayla.   

We love and already miss you so much. This is a ginormous loss to our family, we will make certain your legend and spirit will live on.

Celebration of life to be held in the spring/summer when the sun is shining and Harley engines roaring as per Mikes wishes.
