Melvin Huisman

Melvin Huisman was born on January 4, 1931 in Delft, Netherlands. He passed away on December 1, 2021 in Penticton, BC at the age of 90 years.

Mel moved to Canada 60 years ago with his new wife, Cora. Cora passed away in 2014.

He is survived by his sons, Bill (Judy), Melvin (Audrey) and Ralph (Olga); 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces in Europe and Australia.

In March, 2014 his wife, Cora passed away, which was devastating for him. He also lost his grandson, Jeffrey (1981); granddaughter, Mandy (1989); daughter-in-law, Carol; and his 5 siblings and their spouses.

Although it was not his profession, he was well known for his hobbies (quality woodwork and choirs). Mel and Cora travelled far and wide for many years as volunteer workers in USA and Mexico. After Cora's death Mel struggled with issues and depression. He will be missed by many.

A Celebration of Mel's life will be held on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Hanson's Westwood Chapel, 2541 Churchill Road, West Kelowna followed by the interment of his urn at Westbank Cemetery.
