Mary McCarroll Obituary

Mary was born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan, and spent her childhood there. After graduating high school, she moved to Edmonton to go to nursing school at the University of Alberta.

She met her husband, Don, in 1949 and they married in 1950 after a very short courtship. They moved to Calgary, then Stettler, then back to Calgary where they stayed until 1980, raising 2 daughters, Lynn and Janice.

In 1980, they moved to Kelowna where she had a very vibrant and active lifestyle. She waterskied until she was 65 years old, they went boating and fishing several times a week, they joined the Newcomers Club, they played bridge with friends, and they delivered Meals on Wheels.

In 1984, they moved to Shannon Lake in Westbank and took up golf, joining the Shannon Lake Golf Course and golfing 5 days a week for many years.

In 1997, they moved to Sun Village and moved right across the street from the clubhouse as she wanted to be close to the swimming pool. She swam there frequently by herself, with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very active in the community, on the social committee, delivering newsletters and in the bridge club. They also had numerous friends outside of the village that they kept in touch with and played bridge. They loved to go camping and dancing and joined camping and square dancing groups to attend regularly. She loved going to Janice and Ian’s cabin on the Shuswap and going on the pontoon boat. Mary volunteered at the Red Cross on Mondays for many years.

Mary loved the colour purple. Many years ago Janice bought her the book ‘When I Get Old I Will Wear Purple.’ Now every time she thinks of wearing purple she thinks of Mom.

Mary was a registered nurse and loved to be at the nurse's station at Lakeview Lodge and ‘help’ them. They were always so good to her.

She was predeceased by her parents Charles and Agnes, brothers Tom and Ted, sister Joyce, and her beloved husband of 67 years, Don.

She leaves behind daughters Lynn (Bill) and Janice (Ian); 6 grandchildren, Cody (Joanne), Denver, Leah (Stu), Greg (Miranda), Rae (Craig) and Kelsey (Darryl); and 7 great-grandchildren, Cole, Levi, Kade, Damon, Dakota, Rylan and Oaklynn.

Mary passed away peacefully in her sleep at Lakeview Lodge.

She was loved so very much and will be missed terribly.

We would like to thank the amazing staff at Lakeview Lodge who took such good care of her for the past 6 1/2 years. Thank you for everything.
