Marjorie Manning passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at the Vineyards Residence in Kelowna with her son, Doug, and daughter, Judy, by her side.
Marj was born on October 14, 1930, at Regina General Hospital, the only child of Orlo and Mabel Murray. Her early years were spent on a farm in Battrum, SK. It was here she developed her love of animals. In the early 1940s, the Murrays moved to BC, briefly to Vancouver and then on to Penticton. Marj made many friends, played guitar, watched movies, and was a captain of the Girl Guides.
Marj met her husband, Jim Manning at Penticton High School. They graduated together in 1949 and married soon after in 1952. Jim and Marj built their home on Woodruff Avenue in Penticton, where their two children were born and raised. Marj was a stay-at-home parent, as was tradition in those days. She volunteered as a Cub Scout leader, played bridge, dabbled in art, and enjoyed two very social sports - golf and curling. Once Jim retired, they enjoyed 20 years of winter living on a golf course in Mesa, Arizona. She and Jim were married for 62 years. Jim passed away in 2014 and Marj moved to Kelowna to be with her kids.
Marj will be remembered and missed by friends and family, especially her children, Doug Manning (Kathy) and Judy Fleming (Jack); grandchildren, Kristi Cooper (Basil), Kim Edgson (Russ), Lee Manning, Lindsay Fleming (Ward Frost), and Jenna Beaton (Danny); and 11 great-grandchildren.
A small private service will be held by the family.
