Schlehahn, Joachim ‘Joe’
August 28, 1927 – February 21, 2021
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, brother, Opa, and Great-Opa. Joe passed away peacefully on February 21st with family by his side, holding his hand.
Joachim was born in Halle, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1953, where he made use of his Agricultural Degree while working on a tobacco farm in Toronto. He met the love of his life, his forever best friend Marga in Toronto, and together they moved to Atikokan, Ontario to begin their lives together and raise a family. Joe worked at Caland Ore Mine until 1972 then packed up the family and a U-Haul and headed out west. They settled in Lakeview Heights after accepting a position at Brenda Mines. Joe worked there until his retirement.
Joe enjoyed nothing more than spending time in his garden, tending to all the fruit trees and grape vines, playing cards, camping with friends, travelling, and spending days at the beach with his family. Joe will be remembered as a hard worker with a kind soul who welcomed everyone into his heart and home.
Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years Marga, his sister Gerda (Werner), children Evelyn (Gary), Randy (Pam), grandchildren Mark (Daralynn), Carmen, Tyson, Danielle, and great-grandson Koby. He will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews and all the friends who knew him as Opa.
