Ivy Ruby Melina (Hopkins) Sacrey

Ivy Melina Ruby Sacrey, lovingly known as Ruby, passed away peacefully at her home in West Kelowna, British Columbia, on January 18, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Ruby was born on January 2, 1935, in Englee, Newfoundland and Labrador. On May 22, 1953, she married Pleman Sacrey, and together they built a life rooted in love and devotion. In 1975, Ruby and Pleman moved to Fort McMurray, Alberta. There, Ruby worked for Safeway Canada for 14 years. Her meticulous nature and warm smile left a lasting impression on her coworkers and management alike. She had an extraordinary ability to brighten the day of everyone she encountered.

In 1986, Ruby and Pleman retired to the beautiful Okanagan Valley, settling in Westbank (now West Kelowna), British Columbia. Their home became a gathering place filled with love and laughter. Ruby’s exceptional cooking and gracious hospitality were legendary among family and friends who cherished the warmth of her table. She was a tireless hostess whose meals were as unforgettable as the kindness she extended to all who entered her home.

Ruby’s faith in her Lord Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. She lived out her faith through her unwavering love for her family and her dedication to Emmanuel Church in West Kelowna. Known for her radiant smile, heartfelt hugs, and genuine expressions of care, Ruby was a beloved member of the congregation who touched countless lives with her kindness and grace. Her steadfast devotion to God was evident in every aspect of her life and served as an inspiration to those around her.

Ruby is survived by her five sons, Fred Sacrey (Colleen), Austin Sacrey (Marie), Robert Sacrey (Colleen), Clyde Sacrey (Elizabeth), Russell Sacrey (Dani) and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth (wife of deceased son, Ross); grandchildren, Anessa, Stefan, Vance, Rebecca, Lara Dawn, Shevin, Samaya, Jaiken, Thames, Kelly, Joshua, Shawn, Jonah, Jade, Jacob, Timothy and Wendy.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Pleman Sacrey; as well as two cherished sons: Wayne Sacrey (1979) and Ross Sacrey (2012).

A Celebration of Ruby’s Life will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Church Assembly, 2600 Hebert Road, West Kelowna, BC.

Ruby’s memory will forever bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. May she rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord she so faithfully served throughout her life.
