Irene Dolores (Keller) Oggelsby
January 23, 1941 ~ February 1, 2024 (age 83) 83 Years Old
Passed away peacefully at the Brookhaven Care Center on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at the age of 83, after a long battle with lung and bone cancer.
Irene Oggelsby (nee Keller) of West Kelowna, beloved mate of Ralph Oggelsby. Devoted mother to Raymond (Ann), Douglas (Patricia) and Ronald (Wandalee). Loving grandma to Derek, Brittany, Morgan, Joshua, Madison and Taylor. Great Grandma to newly born Griffin who was born in the Kelowna hospital at the same time Irene was fighting her cancer. She was so happy to be able to hold Griffin before she passed. Survived by sisters Karen and Sharon and brother Randy. Predeceased by her parents Ida and Ernest, her brother Fred and her sister Beverly.
Irene was raised in Oliver and Osoyoos BC and was born in Penticton BC on 23 January, 1941. She spent many years helping her father and mother operate a beautiful orchard in those beautiful Okanagan towns.
Irene called several provinces home, namely, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Nova Scotia throughout her life acting as a strong, proud Naval wife. She always was in control when her spouse of 63 years was away on Naval exercises in different parts of the world. She was the rock of the family. Running to and from hockey and lacrosse practices and games. Making meals. Getting the kids ready for school.
Running errands and then trying to get five minutes to herself at the end of the day.
A funny note about Irene was that she always came across as someone that really did not like dogs but the truth is that Irene loved dogs. The family had three dogs over the years and deep down Irene loved them just like they were part of the family. Irene even allowed Doug, her middle son to bring his two poodles into her Sun Village house.
A true military wife who dabbled in Avon and Hair Styling to make ends meet and was employed in several drug stores over the years as a valued employee.
She was happily retired with her husband Ralph in West Kelowna, close to her childhood home and her family. She was an avid curler in her younger years followed by many years of golf in her latter years of life.
She was involved with the FSNA and her local Sun Village Club.
She never stopped worrying about her family and especially her spouse that she cared and loved so much until her final days on this earth. She would not let herself go, until she knew Ralph was taken care of and would be spending his final years at Brookhaven.
There will be no services as per the request of Irene but later in the spring the family will get together and honour Irene with a celebration of life in the town of Osoyoos.
Ralph and family would like to extend a big thank-you to several organizations that cared for Irene. The Kelowna Cancer Clinic Staff, Kelowna General Hospital Staff, her medical doctor, Dr. John McNern of the Lakepoint Medical Clinic, the nurses and staff of Interior Health and last but not least the staff at the Brookhaven Care Centre who were there until the final end with Irene. An amazing group of care-workers.
