Hermann Hinrich Schnackenberg

In loving memory of Hermann Hinrich Schnackenberg who passed away September 15, 2019. Hermann passed away peacefully at Kelowna General Hospital with his loving family by his side.

Hermann Schnackenberg was born in Tarmstedt, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1952. His plan was to travel across Canada but he ended up in Saskatoon where he met our mother, Regina, in 1954. They were married and moved to Kelowna, BC in 1957. Between 1958 and 1966 they had 5 children; 4 boys and 1 girl. In Kelowna, he worked as a mixologist at the legendary Willow Inn Hotel for many years. After, he worked at the Zodiac Pub in Rutland. After 29 years of marriage, Regina and Hermann decided to go their separate ways. In 1985, Hermann formed a relationship with a long time friend, Erika Zerr. Hermann and Erika moved to Naramata where he worked various jobs including working at the local general store. In 2017, they moved back to Kelowna where they lived until Hermann’s passing.

Hermann was active in charities for many years, raising the most money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation Curl-a-thon for a number of those years. Hermann also donated blood many times over a span of over 50 years. He was very active. Hunting, fishing and enjoying card games such as crib and skat. Hermann the German (as his friends called him) was very social, entertaining numerous friends over the years.

Hermann was predeceased by his mother, Martha and his father who died in WWII when Hermann was just a young boy. He was also predeceased by half sisters.

Hermann is survived by his partner Erika, his sister Katie, his children Gary, Rod (Debbie), Darrell (Lesley), Karen (Jim) and Randy (Cara). He is also survived by his grandchildren, James, Andrew, Steven, Stephanie, Leah, Matthew, Caylm and Reid.

The family would like to extend its gratitude to the staff at Kelowna General Hospital for their care and compassion during this difficult time.

A Celebration of Life will take place from 11:00am - 2:30pm on Sunday October 13, 2019 at the Army Navy & Air Force Veterans Club at 270 Dougall Road N,
Kelowna BC.
