We announce the passing of Gloria Elizabeth Helgerson, a beloved mother, grandmother, friend and community member. She passed away peacefully on March 24, 2023, after a courageous four-year battle with cancer.

Gloria is survived by her son, Sean (Adrienne) and daughter, Erin (Ben); her grandchildren, Junie, Elissa, Chloe, Evan and Ford; sister, Lorraine (Ross); sister-in-law, Valerie, and many other close family and friends who played significant roles in her life.

She was born in Prince Rupert, BC, on November 17, 1951 and lived in several cities within BC before settling in Kelowna, where she raised her children and lived until her passing. Gloria worked at Telus/BC Tel for 33 years and was a devoted single mother who worked hard to provide her children with a loving and comfortable life.

Gloria was renowned for her exceptional baking skills and loved sharing her delicious creations. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting and spending time with loved ones. Her fun-loving personality shone in social settings, and she could occasionally be found two-stepping with a cowboy at the OK Corral.

Gloria adored children and had a special connection with animals. She never missed an opportunity to shower her grandchildren with love and gifts. In addition to having many pet cats, she’d keep the neighbourhood cats (and sometimes raccoons) well fed and full of treats.

Gloria was a dedicated member of her community, serving as a Telus Community Ambassador and volunteering her time at the Okanagan Humane Society and Kelowna Community Theatre. She was known for her generous spirit, creating countless hand-made gift baskets for babies at KGH and giving baby gifts, including her hand-crocheted blankets, to many.

Gloria's kindness, selflessness and generosity touched many lives, and her passing has left a void in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.
