With great sadness, we announce the passing of Fred Klein on October 8, 2024. Fred was born on April 6, 1942, in Eisenerz, Austria, to Leopold and Katharina Klein.
Fred spent his youth skiing the mountains of Eisenerz with his family and friends, where his passion for the sport began. Fred’s formal schooling led him to become a locksmith and then a millwright. In 1971, Fred, along with three good friends, left Austria for Canada looking for new adventures. Fred spent time in Red Lake, AB, and Sparwood, BC, before finding his forever home in Princeton. In 1973, he began working for Northwood Mills and then Weyerhaeuser, as a Millwright. Fred was a dedicated employee with 32 years of service and certificates of perfect attendance. He met and married Frances Antonick on August 19, 1977, and they enjoyed a good life together of 39 years, taking many trips to Austria, travelling BC, camping, and enjoying family and friends. Fred looked forward to playing crib and poker weekly at the Legion, having his daily coffee visits with “the gang,” and spending time with the Antonick families and his friend, Ann. Fred loved skiing and riding his bike well into his mid 70’s. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and a Grand Knight of the Princeton chapter of the Knights of Columbus for 25 years
Fred was predeceased by his wife, Frances of 39 years; his parents, Leopold and Katharina; his brother, Franz and sister, Hildegard. He leaves to mourn his brother, Leopold and brother, Johann of Austria and their families; the Antonick families, his good friend, Ann and lifelong friend, Fritz and wife Judy as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many more wonderful friends he met along his life’s journey.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. in Princeton, BC with interment in Princeton Cemetery.
All are welcome to attend
Auf Wiedersehen Fred
