Frank Berthaudin Obituary

Frank Louis Berthaudin passed away May 19th, 2022, in hospice at Brookhaven Care Centre in West Kelowna, BC

Frank is survived by his wife of 39 years, Geraldine Berthaudin, his two sons Andre (Dawn) and Marc (Margo), his step-sons Graham (Amy) and Stuart Quayle, and his three grandsons, Taylor, Kyle (Devanee), and Riley (Kiersten) Berthaudin.  He is also survived by his brother, Marcel Berthaudin, and his sisters Eugenie Wychreschuk and Elaine Jackson.  Frank was predeceased by his first wife, Therese (Pineau) Berthaudin his parents, Jean and Steny (Bednarz) Berthaudin, his brothers, John and Ernest Berthaudin, and sister, Val Sealy.

Frank was born November 1, 1932, on his family farm near St. Rose Du Lac, Manitoba. Growing up on the farm, he helped take care of the cows, chickens, and minks and worked in the hay fields.  When he was 7 years old he found a blasting cap on the farm.  While playing with it, it exploded and blew off his left hand which had to be amputated below the elbow.

After completing grade 10, Frank went to college in St. Boniface to become a draftsman where he claimed the title of the first one-handed draftsman!  He met and married Therese Pineau.  They had two sons, Andre, born in 1954, and Marc, born in 1958.  They moved to Coquitlam, BC in 1966.  Therese tragically passed away of cancer in 1978.

Frank met Geraldine in 1980 and they married a couple of years later.  Geraldine’s two teenage sons, Graham and Stuart, also moved in.  Frank and Geraldine later bought a house in Maple Ridge, and then retired and moved to Westbank in 1993.

Frank didn’t let one hand get in the way and became an avid golfer at 30 years old, playing his last game in 2021 with his sons and grandson.  Once retired, Frank and Geraldine enjoyed travelling to Yuma, Arizona for over 20 years, enjoying winters in the sun and on the golf course.

The family would like to thank the staff at Brookhaven for their kind and compassionate care during his last weeks of life, as well as Frank’s family doctor, Dr. Burnett, for his care and concern.

There will be a small Celebration of Life on August 14, 2022, for family and close friends.
