A West Kelowna legend, our family matriarch Ferne (Walde) Jean, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 11:40am. She was fierce. A tigress, a reluctant guru to feminism, a skilled storyteller and a better business woman. She was hilarious, and aggressive, and has probably offended you. She was driven. Up to a couple weeks prior to her passing, she was busy working on a new research project. Her work ethic was unstoppable. She was always connecting dots and making connections. She was well travelled and had opinions on everything. She was a farmer and had owned 100s of acres here on the Westside. As a direct descendent of the Gellatly family she spearheaded the preservation of the Gellatly Nut Farm Regional Park and Gellatly Heritage Cemetery. She was a powerhouse, whose strong faith in God was a driving force in her life. We are so proud of the things she has accomplished and the example she has been to us all. She is predeceased by 2 daughters Kathy (Lance) Rogers and Susan (Pete) Corak and survived by 5 children Charles (Joy) Jean, Mary (Gordon) Fuller, Lawrence (Louise) Jean, Blaire (Denise) Jean and Guy (Loralee) Jean. As well as 26 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren (with 2 more on the way) and 8 great, great grandchildren. Her 95th birthday would have been April 15th, a service to celebrate her life will take place on that day, at 11am. The service will be held at the Gellatly Heritage Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Gellatly Nut Farm Society via e-transfer at nutfarm@shaw.ca
