On May 20, 2024, a sunny spring morning, we lost a very special person, Colin Lynch Fazan.
Colin was born in Kelowna to Allan and Florence Fazan on November 7, 1935, the fourth in a family of 7 brothers and sisters. Colin spent his early years in Joe Rich until the family moved to Kelowna in the early forties. He spent his summers working in orchards and doing odd jobs to help out the family, after his father's sudden passing when Colin was only 11.
Eventually Colin started working at Eatons on Bernard Avenue, first in the stock room and later on the sales floor. He met his first wife Shirley Barber in the mid-fifties and with the help of her parents they built a modest house on Raymer Rd. and adopted two children, Colin Jr. and Linda. Born into a musical family, Colin spent many evenings and weekends playing guitar and singing at weddings and events around Kelowna, often with his younger brother Bruce. It was the mid-seventies when Colin joined the fire Department that he found his true calling as a professional firefighter and first responder. Colin married his second wife Grace in the early nineties. Colin was an avid archer and you could find him in the fall searching the hills for that elusive moose or elk with his hand-hewn bows and arrows. Colin also loved playing pool and golfing, which he took up at 75. His favorite hobby though was singing karaoke, where he would charm the ladies with his favorite crooner melodies. In the last few years Dad was suffering with cognitive decline and couldn't sing like he once had, but we still went to karaoke less than a week before his death.
Colin is survived by his daughter Linda (Rick); grandchildren, Sam Jessie and Caelee Smith; grandchildren, Naomi and Miranda Fazan, and their mother Theresa Dolan. He is also survived by his brother Bruce, step son Russell Bajer (Roy) and many nieces and nephews. Colin was predeceased by his wife Grace, son Colin and stepson Jeff, as well as all but one sibling.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lakeview Lodge for the care they provided Dad in the last couple years, and also Mike McNeil for his friendship.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Army & Navy, 150 Gray Road, Kelowna, BC, V1X 1W7.
If there's a heaven, Dad, I hope you're hunting a moose, singing a song and having a smoke. You did it your way! That's amore!
