Allan Anderson Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Allan Richard Anderson, at 86 years of age, who was brought to the Lord on the early morning of April 5, 2022 – 1 day after his 63rd wedding anniversary to his devoted wife, Bev.

Al was a husband, brother, father, grandfather and newly, a great grandfather – he was the salt of the earth.

He was dedicated to church every Sunday with Bev and even more devoted to the breakfasts that followed. He had a passion for fishing, camping, hunting, playing cards, working on the farm alongside his grandson, Ross and spending time with his family. He was the type of guy that was always up for cracking a beer and having a good conversation. If you were lucky enough for him to pour you a drink, it was always stiff and filled to the brim. You could always find Al in his suspenders, a hat and smoking his tobacco pipe back in the day. Al had an appreciation for a good meal – he especially loved Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners.

Al was born on October 17, 1935 in Picture Butte, Alberta to parents Alice and Richard Anderson on their farm. He lived there for 23 years and worked for Harry Watson Motors as a truck driver after he graduated from high school.

At the age of 21, he was introduced to the lovely Beverley Bertoia and married on April 4, 1959. That following year they went to a rockin’ new year’s eve party and 9 months later they were proud parents of their first child, Patti.  She was followed by her 3 brothers, Doug, David and Chris. Al and the family moved fairly often – they lived in several towns: Genelle, Airdrie, Fort Macleod, Okotoks, Canmore and retired in West Kelowna in 1993.

For most of Al’s life, he was a lineman for Calgary Power (Trans Alta) and enjoyed his work. In his retirement years, he has made numerous friends in his community and was a contributing member at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

He was welcomed with open arms to the Lord by his parents, Alice and Richard, his brother, Don and son, Doug – who all met him at the gates in his mom’s little pink car.

He is survived by his wife, Bev; children, Patti (Sam) Di Maria, David (Candice), Chris (Lesia) and daughter in law, Barb Anderson; his grandchildren who he was immensely proud of, Jenna Di Maria, Scott Anderson, Michael Anderson, Samantha (Adam) Snook, Ross Di Maria, Metro Anderson and the newest and cutest member of the family, great grandson, Mason Snook.  He is also survived by many sister and brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, special cousin, Bill (Marie) Poelman and many, many dear friends.

He will be dearly missed and always remembered – his legacy lives on. Your work on earth is done. May you rest in peace, dear Dad.

The family would like to thank the medical staff on 3 East at KGH for their care and kindness. Special shout out to Andrew, Morgan and Megan.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Al’s memory can be made to the KGH foundation at https://www.kghfoundation.com/in-honour/ or phone 250-862-4438.
