William (Bill) Earl Bellingham
1929 – 2018
It’s with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Bill Bellingham on July 27th, 2018 at Kelowna General Hospital. Bill was born in February 1929 in Vermillion, Alberta. He spent his youth working various jobs in Alberta. He joined the City of Calgary in 1951, retiring in 1985, hanging up his shovels, left handed screw drivers, graders and finally the pavers. During his city years he and his brother Clarence, and then brother Alfred (West-end Cabs) started Mayfair Taxi, serving Calgary city south. Then becoming a ‘gentleman farmer’ he went to Elmorth, Alberta. Soon after, Bill and Shirley moved to Shuswap (Blind Bay), BC…the grandchildren were calling water sports. Many hours were spent in the sun and the water and Bill walking with his favourite dog ‘Kona’. In 2016 Kona died and no more walks…
Bill leaves to mourn, his wife Shirley of 67 years, his son Brian (Ann-Marie), 7 grandchildren: Jason (Adriana), Jamie (Ami), Ben (Shauna), Shannon, Jessy (Jay), Shawn (Kara) and Kristina (Jason) as well as 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Elaine in 2006 and his son Jeffery in 2012.
To say that Bill was well-loved feels flat in contrast to the reality. He was both respected and adored by those whose lives he touched. Bill made friends everywhere he went. He loved his family, he loved the outdoors and he was the consummate good guy. We will miss him terribly.
