Vladamere Loshny

We are very sad to announce the passing of Vladamere Loshny on Sep 11, 2018 in Kelowna, BC at the age of 84.

Vladamere, better known as Walter, Walt or Wally, was born in a barn in Brooksby Saskatchewan in 1934. Walt was the second youngest of 11 siblings. His parents Nicholas and Mary Loshny were homestead farmers in the Melfort area of Saskatchewan. The Family moved to Armstrong BC in the early 40’s and continued farming. Walt graduated from High School in Armstrong and moved to Vancouver to live with his eldest sister Mary. Here he soon joined the RCMP at age 20.  While in the RCMP, he found himself in Weyburn Sask, Ottawa Ontario, Lethbridge and Wainwright Alberta. He talked fondly of his years in the Force, and of all the many men and women that he worked with and met along the way. He believed that the Police force in any community was only as strong as the community around them. Needless to say, Walt was a social force, he loved to interact with the community around him.

Upon retiring from the RCMP Walt became Director of Security for the Alberta Government, Office of the Premier. He was privileged to serve under Premiers Peter Lougheed, and Don Getty. Again, he had countless stories and fond memories of these years.

Walt and his life partner Irene retired in the early 1990’s to Peachland BC. He oversaw the construction of their retirement home. He had cherry trees, peach trees, and any number of fruit bearing trees, bushes and plants. He had a love and an unbelievable ability to grow the most amazing tomatoes, and vegetables in the home garden. Walt’s lawn was groomed, weedless, and just about perfect!

Their home was a crossroads of travellers, friends and relatives, where there was always a meal, a drink, good conversation and lots of laughs. Everyone was welcome, and he could make anyone feel comfortable.

Walt was predeceased by his parents; Nicholas and Mary, his brothers; Mike, Albert, Peter, Sam and William and his sisters; Mary, Lena, Kate, and Anne.

He will be missed by his Wife Irene Loshny of Peachland, BC, Sister Olga Shumay of Vernon BC, Son Greg Loshny of New Westminster BC, Daughter Dianne Scherbinski of Dewinton Alberta, and Son Douglas Loshny of Fort Langley BC, his grandchildren; Corey, Julie, Kaylee, Layne, Colten, Veronika and Emma, his great-grandchildren; Daylan, Brooklyn, Sawyer and Evelyn, and soon to be added Charlotte (Jan 2019).

We welcome all to Honor his life on Oct. 13th, from 3pm to 8pm at the 50 Plus Activity Centre - 5672 Beach Ave, Peachland BC. Bring your “Walt” stories please. Refreshments and snacks served, along with his signature home made Tomato juice and Beer beverages.
