Stan Etsuo Taneda
1930 – 2018

Stan Etsuo Taneda passed peacefully at the age of 88 in the arms of his loving wife Florence. He is survived by his son Chris (Cheryl) Grandson Matthew and Granddaughter Michelle, Son Phil (Kari) Granddaughters Sharay, Makiko and Tori, Son Todd (Nicole) Grandsons Ben and Sam and Granddaughter Abigail, his sister Bessie (Koga) and many nephews and nieces. 

Stan was Born in Westbank on a Good Friday April 19th, 1930. He went to the Westbank School, a 4-room building that hosted grades one to twelve. Stan worked at the local packing house and eventually took over the family orchards.

In 1967 he was a founding member of the Westbank Lions Club. In 1981 - 82 he was the President of the Lions Club which at the time was restoring the Westbank Community Hall. This past incurred debt of $200,000.00 was repaid by initiating the first Dream House Lottery. Stan was a driving force in getting this idea and project going. During his 50 plus years of honoured service and many achievements the Lions Club International Foundation honoured Stan with the 2 highest international awards that can be bestowed upon a member, the Melvin Jones Award and the Judge Brian Stevenson Award. 

Stan Loved the outdoors and nature. He was a member of the Last Mountain Ski Club and loved to hunt and fish. In his later years he dedicated much of his time caring for his bonsai collection and was a member of the Bonsai club. 

Stan and Florence were married 63 Years minus 7 days. They were best friends and lived a fairy tale love story together. Stan is remembered for his kind heart, infectious smile and ability to make everyone around him feel happy.

The Family would like to thank the staff at the Village at Smith Creek for the care of Stan with the difficulty of Parkinson's Disease in his last 2 years.  

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Parkinson’s Society of BC www.parkinson.bc.ca/donate/, for education purposes in the Okanagan would be appreciated. 

A Celebration of his life will take place at 11:00am, Saturday September 1, 2018 at the Emmanuel Church, 2600 Hebert Rd, Westbank, September 1st at 11AM.
