Norbert Stein Obituary

It is with extremely heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Norbert Stein on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at his home in Peachland surrounded by the love of his family.

Born January 16, 1942 in Frankfurt-Oder to Hebert August Wilhelm Stein & Gerda Stein (nee Kieback). He will be sorely missed, & forever loved by his wife Marion Stein (nee Campbell), # 1 son Erik (Shani) of Surrey & their son, Reece, # 2 son David Johnston (Tiffany) of Westbank & his brother Thomas (Reiner) of Oranienburg, Germany and his step Mom Edeltraud Stein of Berlin, Germany.

Predeceased by brother Jurgen 1940, mother 1973, father 1989, first wife, Bonita Stein (Brunt) 2007, & 2nd wife Sharon Stein (Brown) 2007.

He came to Canada in 1967 with his friend Manfred Melzer, living 1st in Toronto, later in Vancouver & eventually Peachland became home.  He was an exceptionally skilled metal worker (retiring from Waycon, Penticton in 2005).  He was equally skilled at wood working, stained glass, stone work & anything else his hands touched & mind could imagine.  He could fix anything & was always interested in how things worked.  He was a member of the Peachland Chess Club & enjoyed passing time reading, playing games & doing his daily Sudoku.

Norbert & Marion loved traveling & managed to visit over 40 countries during their almost 11 year marriage.  He was the perfect traveling companion...always curious, non-judgemental, calm in the most stressful of travel situations, & willing to try anything, from riding a camel in Morocco to swimming across the equator.

Norbert has requested there be no service.  Cremation has occurred. Close friends & family will gather at the family home on Sunday, Jan 5, 2020 at 2 PM to tell stories & share memories.  No flowers please.  If you wish, make a donation to a charity of your choice in Norbert's name.

A special thank-you to Doctor Hoekstra GP, Dr Wadhwa of the Kelowna Cancer Centre, Dr Claremont & members of the Hospice Palliative Care Team in Westbank.

Farewell to our treasured husband, father, brother, friend & all around gentle man.  Enjoy the journey & say Hi! to everyone up there.  We'll see you again, sweetie!
