ULMER, El (Elmer) William
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Elmer at the age of 86 on Thursday, August 23, 2018 in Kelowna, BC.
He was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend to many. Elmer was born Nov 8, 1931 in Melville, Sask (close to Lorlie) and lived most of his life in Regina where he met and married Joan, his wife of 65 years. He was a printer for over 60 years and enjoyed playing fast pitch softball as shortstop for the Barker Gems, continuing to play for many years after his retirement. He built a wonderful cottage on Last Mountain Lake that was enjoyed for 20 years until they retired to Kelowna BC, where he lived the Okanagan life for 22 years.
Elmer was a kind man, always active, energetic and as sharp as a tack. He treated people equally and with respect and really listened to what they had to say before judging them. He was always ready to share a laugh with his many friends and always happy to say a friendly hello to anyone. He loved to play bridge, billiards, golf and cribbage and was an active Christian man with much faith in his belief.
He is survived by his beloved wife Joan, his son Jeff (Marianne), daughter Kelly (Dave), 2 grandsons Christian (Amanda) and Cameron, 5 sisters and 1 brother.
A service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 1162 Hudson Rd, West Kelowna, BC. Thurs, Sept 6 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers kindly forward donations to the Kelowna SPCA, 3785 Casorso Rd, Kelowna.
We wish to give our heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, social workers and staff at the Kelowna General Hospital for their amazing compassion and dedication to our family and Elmer.
We lost a wonderful person and he will be greatly missed.
