Hazel Jean Albers (nee Ganong); daughter, sister, friend, aunt, wife, stepmother, great-aunt, grandmother, and great-great-aunt, left this world and those that loved her on March 25, 2024.
Hazel spent her youth in Calgary, Alberta, where she was the seventh born of eight children to Ronald and Catherine Ganong.
After graduating high school, she worked at Telus for a few years before embarking on a backpacking trip across Europe with her friend. They then lived in Whitehorse, Yukon and Vancouver, British Columbia before returning to Calgary. Upon her return, Hazel rejoined the team at Telus and had a long career with them. Once she retired, she drove the bus with Calgary Transit.
Hazel married John Albers and together they resided in Calgary, travelled locally and abroad, and enjoyed spending much of their leisure time travelling and camping in their motorhome.
After John’s death, Hazel moved to British Columbia, where she spent her remaining years. While there, she resumed bus driving and drove the Airport Shuttle in Kelowna.
Those who will miss this amazing woman will include her only surviving sibling, brother David; sisters-in-law, Joyce, Judy, and Pat; stepdaughter, Peppi; grandchildren, Danny and Christina; nephews and nieces, and many friends.
A private family graveside ceremony will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, in Calgary, Alberta.
